An old GDR warehouse becomes a timeless residential project
On the former industrial site between Ostbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke, the Diamona & Harnisch team has created a building complex in which urban elegance meets modern living. Bei der Gestaltung spielte der Genius Loci eine entscheidende Rolle: Das Architekturbüro Klaus Theo Brenner hat sich von den Besonderheiten des Stadtteils inspirieren. Wichtige Referenzen waren die umliegenden Gebäudetypologien, deren formale Elemente in die zeitgemäße Formensprache des „THE FRANZ“ übersetzt wurden. Mit der Eröffnung des neuen EDEKA-Marktes im Erdgeschoss mit rund 4.116 Quadratmetern Verkaufsfläche wird zudem die Geschichte des Grundstücks als wichtiger Nahversorgungsstandort an der Grenze der Berliner Bezirke Mitte und Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain fortgeschrieben.
